Paramount Pictures has dropped the official teaser trailer and poster for The Running Man, the high-octane, near-future action thriller from director Edgar Wright. Starring Glen Powell, Colman Domingo, and Jayme Lawson the film races into theaters on November 7, 2025.
Adapted from Stephen King’s 1982 novel (written under his pseudonym Richard Bachman), The Running Man is a reimagining of the deadly reality TV satire that was first brought to screen in 1987 with Arnold Schwarzenegger. This new take promises a grittier, more faithful adaptation of King’s original vision.
Joining Powell in the cast are William H. Macy, Lee Pace, Emilia Jones, Michael Cera, Daniel Ezra, Jayme Lawson, Karl Glusman, Katy O’Brian, Sandra Dickinson, and Sean Hayes.
In The Running Man, Powell plays Ben Richards, a working-class father who reluctantly joins a brutal televised competition in a desperate attempt to save his sick daughter. The rules? Survive 30 days while being hunted by elite assassins known as “Hunters.” The prize? An ever-growing jackpot and the slim hope of survival.
Brolin portrays Dan Killian, the show’s calculating producer, while Domingo plays the show’s host—a role that was the central villain in the original film but has been reimagined in a more nuanced, supporting direction this time around.
Edgar Wright, who co-wrote the script with Michael Bacall, describes The Running Man as “a deadly game of hide and seek,” noting that the film plays like a high-intensity road movie. “Ben is moving through different environments and meeting different people as he tries to survive 30 days out in the wild,” Wright previously told press.
Wright also emphasized why casting Powell was the right call: “I felt it was important to see somebody who hadn’t really done something like this before. It’s like casting Bruce Willis in Die Hard—it adds to the suspense. Can they make it?”
The production, which wrapped earlier this year, has King’s stamp of approval as well as the blessing of Schwarzenegger himself. According to Powell, the legendary action star was supportive of the remake and will be honored with a “very specific, fun gift” in the film.
The Running Man is produced by Simon Kinberg, Nira Park, and Edgar Wright. Executive producers include George Linder, James Biddle, Rachael Prior, Audrey Chon, Pete Chiappetta, Anthony Tittanegro, and Andrew Lary. It’s a Kinberg Genre and Complete Fiction production in association with Domain Entertainment.
With a timely premise that critiques reality TV and surveillance culture, The Running Man is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated thrillers of the fall. The full trailer is expected to debut tomorrow.
The hunt begins November 7.
