Regina Hall is adding another comedy to her already stacked resume.
Hall has officially joined Will Ferrell and Zac Efron in Amazon MGM Studios’ upcoming untitled comedy, previously known as Judgment Day. The project is being directed by Nicholas Stoller, who also penned the script. This marks another team-up between Stoller and Ferrell following their recent Prime Video film You’re Cordially Invited, which co-stars Reese Witherspoon.
Here’s what we know about the plot: Efron plays a young man fresh out of prison who hijacks a reality TV courtroom, convinced the judge—played by Ferrell—ruined his life with a past ruling. What unfolds is part hostage situation, part chaotic satire, with Ferrell playing a megalomaniac TV personality. Hall’s role is being kept under wraps for now, but let’s be real—Regina knows how to command the screen, so we’re expecting something juicy.
The film is produced by Ferrell, Jessica Elbaum, and Alex Brown under Gloria Sanchez Productions, alongside Stoller for Stoller Global Solutions.
Hall’s casting comes at a time when her plate is anything but empty. The first teaser just dropped for One Battle After Another, where she stars opposite Leonardo DiCaprio, Sean Penn, and Teyana Taylor in Paul Thomas Anderson’s latest film. She’s also gearing up for Searchlight Pictures’ original rock opera O’Dessa.
From iconic comedic turns in Scary Movie to her acclaimed performance in Support the Girls—which earned her a historic Best Actress win from the New York Film Critics Circle—Hall continues to prove she can move seamlessly across genres. Recent roles in Honk for Jesus. Save Your Soul., Master, and Me Time further show her range and staying power.
And she’s not just in front of the camera. Her production banner RH Negative recently signed a first-look deal with MGM Alternative, further cementing her presence behind the scenes.
No release date yet for the film, but one thing is clear: Regina Hall stays booked—and we’ll be watching.
