Only Murders in the Building is headed to London for its sixth season, and Hulu is stacking the cast with some of Britain’s biggest names. Richard Ayoade, David Tennant, Nicola Coughlan, Jodie Whittaker, Jim Broadbent, Adrian Lukis and Kathryn Hunter have all signed on in recurring roles, joining a wave of previously announced guest stars that includes Martin Freeman, Sharon Horgan, Simone Ashley, Jennifer Saunders and Geri Halliwell-Horner, among others.
The new season marks the first time the comedy mystery series has left New York City, sending the crime-solving trio of Charles (Steve Martin), Oliver (Martin Short) and Mabel (Selena Gomez) across the Atlantic to tackle London’s newest murder. Production is currently underway in the UK. The show was co-created by Martin and John Hoffman and is produced by 20th Television.
Ayoade, best known for his BAFTA-winning turn as Maurice Moss in The IT Crowd, was most recently seen in Wes Anderson’s The Phoenician Scheme and The Wonderful World of Henry Sugar. He is also set to join the voice cast of Sonic the Hedgehog 4.
Tennant, who played both the Tenth and Fourteenth Doctors on Doctor Who, is currently starring in the Disney+ series Rivals and recently appeared in The Thursday Murder Club on Netflix. Coughlan, a Bridgerton mainstay who took center stage in that show’s third season, recently hosted Saturday Night Live UK and next headlines Season 4 of Channel 4’s I Am.
Whittaker, who made history as the first woman to play the Doctor on Doctor Who, most recently appeared opposite Jennifer Lopez and Brett Goldstein in Netflix’s Office Romance. Broadbent, an Oscar winner for 2001’s Iris and a Harry Potter franchise veteran who played Horace Slughorn, was recently seen in Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy. Hunter, an Olivier Award winner who played Arabella Figg in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, has recent credits spanning Poor Things, Andor and Black Doves.
