Richard Roundtree, Terri J. Vaughn to Recur in Cherish The Day Season 2

Richard Roundtree and Terri J. Vaughn have been added to the second season of OWN’s romance anthology Cherish the Day. They will star opposite this season’s leads Henry Simmons and Joy Bryant.

Cherish the Day is Ava Duvernay’s anthology series in which each episode chronicling a single day of one couple.

Season two follows former high school sweethearts, Ellis and Sunday, who find themselves reunited in beautiful New Orleans. Bryant will play a vegan celebrity chef named Sunday, while Simmons will play former basketball player Ellis, now a single father of two. The series will chronicle the relationship of the former couple as they rekindle their romance. While revealing significant moments in a relationship that compel us to hold true to the ones we love, from the extraordinary to the everyday.

Roundtree will recur as Mandeville “MV” St. James, Sunday (Bryant’s father). He is a proud, loving, wry-humored former judge and widowed.

Vaughn will recur as Anastasia, Ellis’ (Simmons) soon-to-be ex-wife and the mother of their children.

Also announced were the directors for this season of Ava Duvernay’s anthology series. Angel Kristi Williams, Sheldon Candis, and Merawi Gerima will all direct episodes this season.

The DuVernay-led series achieved full gender parity with a production crew of more than 50% women, including 18 female department heads, an initiative DuVernay will continue in season 2.

DuVernay, Paul Garnes, Raynelle Swilling, Teri Schaffer, and Oprah Winfrey serve as EPs of the series.

Production on the ARRAY Filmworks, Harpo Films and Warner Bros. Television production will begin this month in New Orleans with the new season set to air in 2022.

The first season of “Cherish the Day” debuted in February 2020. starred Xosha Roquemore, Alano Miller, and the late Cicely Tyson starred in the first season.
