Samuel L. Jackson and Daveed Diggs are locked and loaded for a new hitman thriller, bringing together action, dark humor, and a whole lot of attitude. Directed by legendary filmmaker Ernest Dickerson (Juice, Demon Knight) and penned by Gringo screenwriter Matthew Stone, the untitled project promises to be a sharp, high-energy ride through the criminal underworld.
Produced by Vincent Newman (Maggie Moore(s)) and financed by Contentious Media, the currently untitled film brings Jackson back into action as a retired hitman, a part that was specifically written for him by Stone, forced to do one last job—whether he likes it or not.
Jackson plays Morris Stokes, a recently retired, sharp-witted hitman for mob boss Easy-A. But retirement doesn’t last long when his nephew Leslie (Diggs) gets tangled in a dangerous mess—he’s accused of stealing the mob’s earnings. Morris gets the call that drags him off the golf course and back into the game. His mission? Recover the stolen money over the weekend… or take Leslie out himself. The stakes get even higher when Morris learns his nephew is about to become a father.
As the two navigate the city, Morris dishes out life lessons, street justice, and a reminder to anyone who crosses him why he earned his reputation as the most feared enforcer in the business. But when the mob double-crosses him, Morris proves that even in retirement, he’s still the baddest mother**cker around.
Dickerson, known for his work both behind the camera and as Spike Lee’s longtime cinematographer, will direct the project. WME Independent is handling international sales, while Fifth Season, CAA Media Finance, and Contentious Media are covering North American distribution.
Diggs, a Tony-winning actor and musician, is coming off the two-time Oscar-nominated Nickel Boys, while Jackson remains one of Hollywood’s most iconic talents.
