Praise Kier! ‘Severance’ Officially Renewed for Season 3 After Record-Breaking Second Season

By now, if you’re still wondering whether to trust Lumon Industries… the answer is a solid no. But here’s something you can count on: Severance is coming back for a third season.

Apple TV+ dropped the news just one day after the mind-bending Season 2 finale aired. And honestly, with the way things ended? We needed this confirmation like Mark Scout needs answers.

What began as a slow-burn sci-fi mystery with a devoted cult following has now evolved into Apple’s most-watched series ever. That’s right—Severance just lapped Ted Lasso in the streaming race, pulling in 681 million viewing minutes during its latest run and securing a spot on Nielsen’s Top 10 for five straight weeks.

The series, created by Dan Erickson and directed and executive produced by Ben Stiller, centers on Mark Scout (played to stoic perfection by Adam Scott), an employee at the ultra-mysterious Lumon Industries. Mark and his co-workers have undergone a “severance” procedure—surgically splitting their work memories from their personal ones. So basically, your work self and your home self are total strangers… which is somehow both genius and horrifying.

Season 1 gave us the great office awakening: Mark, Helly (Britt Lower), Irving (John Turturro), and Dylan (Zach Cherry) started to question everything—pushing back against the company’s creepy control. Season 2? It went even deeper, filling in backstories, raising the stakes, and confirming that Lumon has had its corporate claws in people’s lives longer than we thought. From the Macrodata Refinement team’s mysterious work to the truth about Mark and Gemma’s past, it was a season of peeling back layers… only to reveal more unsettling truths underneath.

The cast—an all-star ensemble—also includes Patricia Arquette, Tramell Tillman, Jen Tullock, Michael Chernus, Dichen Lachman, Christopher Walken, and new faces like Sarah Bock and Ólafur Darri Ólafsson. Plus, there were surprise cameos, including Keanu Reeves voicing the Lumon building in a quirky animated corporate video. Because why not?

And while Apple hasn’t revealed exactly when Season 3 will hit our screens, Ben Stiller made one thing clear: we will not be waiting another three years. “That’s definitely not the plan,” he said on the New Heights podcast with Travis and Jason Kelce. So, breathe easy, innies and outies—we won’t be aging in real-time between seasons this go-round.

In a statement, Stiller joked, “While I have no memory of this, I’m told making Season 3 will be equally enjoyable,” staying perfectly on-brand with the show’s surreal humor. Adam Scott chimed in too: “If you see my innie, please don’t mention any of this to him. Thanks.”

Dan Erickson added, “The idea of getting to make more Severance with the greatest cast and crew on Earth is more thrilling to me than all the world’s finger traps combined.” That’s love right there.

Matt Cherniss, Apple TV+’s head of programming, summed it up best: “What Ben, Dan, Adam and the talented cast and crew behind Severance have brought to the screen is undeniable magic. We’re so proud to be the home for this brilliant series and look forward to audiences experiencing what’s in store for Season 3.”

Same, Matt. Same.

So go ahead and bow your heads to Kier—because we’re getting more Severance, and the ride’s only getting wilder from here.
