‘Sinners’ Heads Back to Theaters Following Historic 16 Oscar Nominations

Ryan Coogler’s ‘Sinners’ Is Coming Back to IMAX in 70mm for a One-Week Run

Coming off a historic 16 Academy Award nominations — the most ever for a single film, Sinners is officially heading back to theaters.

During a new interview on CBS Mornings, cast members Michael B. Jordan, Wunmi Mosaku, and Miles Caton confirmed that the multiple award-winning film will return to cinemas beginning January 23, giving audiences another chance to experience the phenomenon on the big screen as awards season momentum continues to build.

Directed by Ryan Coogler, Sinners opened at No. 1 at the box office last April with a $48 million debut and went on to become one of the highest-grossing horror films of all time. The period vampire epic earned $274 million domestically and an additional $85 million internationally, pushing its global total past $361 million.

The film’s critical and audience reception has been just as formidable. Sinners currently holds a 97% Rotten Tomatoes score and earned an A CinemaScore, the highest grade ever awarded to an original horror film.

Jordan stars in a dual role as twin brothers Smoke and Stack, who return to their hometown in hopes of starting over, only to confront a far darker threat waiting for them. The ensemble cast also includes Hailee Steinfeld, Jack O’Connell, Lola Kirke, Delroy Lindo, Jayme Lawson, and Omar Benson Miller.

Earlier this week, Sinners rewrote Oscar history, surpassing the long-standing nomination record previously shared by All About Eve (1950), Titanic (1997), and La La Land (2016). The film landed nominations for Best Picture, Best Director, Best Original Screenplay, Best Actor, Supporting Actress, Supporting Actor, and a sweeping slate of craft categories including Cinematography, Production Design, Costume Design, Editing, Sound, Makeup & Hairstyling, Visual Effects, and the Academy’s newly introduced Best Casting category. The film’s original song, “I Lied To You,” also earned a nomination.

The recognition caps off a dominant awards-season run. Sinners won Best Wide Release at the Chainsaw Awards, was named one of AFI’s Top 10 Films of 2025, and picked up major wins at the Critics’ Choice Awards, Golden Globes, and Gotham Independent Film Awards, including Outstanding Supporting Performance for Mosaku. The film’s soundtrack is also nominated for six Grammy Awards.

With its return to theaters, Sinners continues to solidify its place as not just an awards-season juggernaut, but a landmark moment in genre filmmaking — and one audiences clearly aren’t finished revisiting yet.
