‘Sinners’ Returns to IMAX Theaters for a One-Week Halloween Engagement

Ryan Coogler’s Sinners is making its way back to IMAX—just in time for Halloween.

The R-rated box office hit, starring Michael B. Jordan in dual roles, will return to select IMAX locations for one week starting October 30, giving audiences another chance to experience the haunting Southern gothic tale the way Coogler intended—on IMAX 70MM and premium large-format screens.

This marks the film’s second IMAX re-release after a limited run in May, following its original theatrical debut being cut short to make room for Marvel’s Thunderbolts.

According to Warner Bros., the limited engagement “offers audiences the chance to experience one of the most original and emotionally resonant films to ever reach the big screen,” celebrating both its ambitious storytelling and the artistry of its cast and crew.

When Sinners first premiered in April, it opened to $48 million domestically, the biggest debut for an original film since Jordan Peele’s Us in 2019. With strong word-of-mouth and critical acclaim, the film’s second-weekend numbers nearly matched its first—a rare feat for a non-holiday release. To date, Sinners has earned $278 million in North America and $366 million globally on a $90 million budget.

Set in the 1930s, the story follows twin brothers Smoke and Stack (both played by Jordan) who return to their Southern hometown to open a juke joint—only to find their small community under siege by vampires. The film is a stunning mix of horror, history, and heart, blending the visual poetry Coogler is known for (Creed, Black Panther) with a genre rarely explored through a Black Southern lens.

Speaking at a recent screening, Coogler praised Jordan’s performance, saying, “We asked him to do this difficult thing technically—playing two different characters—but it also required the backstory and trust we’ve built over the years.”

With Halloween around the corner, Sinners’ return is a gift for both those revisiting it and those who missed its IMAX debut earlier this year. And as Coogler gears up for his next project—an X-Files reboot currently in development—it’s clear the filmmaker’s fascination with the eerie and unknown is far from over.
