CBS has released the official trailer for Boston Blue Season 2, premiering Friday, October 9, exclusively revealed by PEOPLE. The trailer finds Danny Reagan (Donnie Wahlberg) and Lena Silver (Sonequa Martin-Green) investigating a string of murders mirroring the infamous Boston Strangler killings, with the season premiere, titled “The Crash,” centering on their race to stop a copycat killer who has already claimed five victims as panic spreads across the city.
The Blue Bloods spinoff follows Danny as he left New York for Boston to be closer to his son Sean, eventually building a life there and partnering with Lena, the eldest daughter of a prominent Boston law enforcement family. Season 1 ended on a major cliffhanger when Lena’s boyfriend, Detective Brian Rogers, was hit by a truck and his car went into the water, a storyline the new season addresses after what showrunners Brandon Sonnier and Brandon Margolis describe as a small time jump forward, allowing Lena to recover before she and Danny return to the streets together. Beyond the Strangler case, Danny faces a career-defining promotion decision, while Lena follows a lead connecting Rogers’ crash to a more powerful figure.
The season brings back the show’s full principal cast, including Maggie Lawson as Sarah Silver, Marcus Scribner as Jonah Silver, Mika Amonsen as Sean Reagan, Gloria Reuben as Mae Silver, and Ernie Hudson as Reverend Edwin Peters, alongside several Blue Bloods crossover appearances. Will Estes returns as Jamie Reagan, Len Cariou reprises Henry Reagan in the premiere, and Marisa Ramirez returns as Detective Maria Baez, Danny’s girlfriend, as the show continues building toward her eventual move to Boston. Sonnier and Margolis have also teased that Mae’s re-election campaign will be a major storyline this season, introducing Ward Horton as a political foil pushing her into tougher territory.
Boston Blue Season 2 is produced by CBS Studios and Jerry Bruckheimer Television, with Sonnier, Margolis, Jerry Bruckheimer, KristieAnne Reed, and Wahlberg executive producing. New episodes air weekly on CBS beginning October 9, with next-day streaming on Paramount+.
