Stephan James, Marianne Jean-Baptiste join Gugu Mbatha-Raw in the Apple TV series Surface from High Fidelity co-creator and exec producer Veronica West. Oliver Jackson-Cohen, Ari Graynor, François Arnaud, and Millie Brady have also been cast.

Veronica West created and wrote the series in Sam Miller will direct. It centers on Mbatha-Raw as Sophie who is on a quest to rebuild her life after a suicide attempt, and her struggle to remember – and understand – everything that led up to the moment when she jumped.
In Surface, James portrays Baden, an undercover cop with a strong connection to Sophie. Baptiste is Hannah, Sophie’s therapist. Jackson-Cohen plays James, Sophie’s husband and a well-connected and successful partner at a venture capital firm.
Graynor is Caroline, an heiress and old friend of Sophie and James. Arnaud plays Harrison, a colleague and friend of James. Brady is Eliza, mysterious woman that connects to Sophie’s past.

West will executive produce, along with Witherspoon and Lauren Neustadter on behalf of Hello Sunshine. Mbatha-Raw also will serve as executive producer. Ashley Strumwasser and Jon Wu serve as producers for Hello Sunshine. Miller will also executive produce on the eight-episode first season.
The streaming platform gave the new psychological thriller a straight-to-series pickup with eight episodes.
Production is slated to begin next year.
