Gugu Mbatha-Raw’s Surface Season 2 Trailer Reveals New Mysteries and Dangerous Secrets

Apple TV+ has released the official trailer for Surface Season 2, and Sophie’s search for the truth is far from over. Played by Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Sophie is now in London, determined to uncover the secrets of her past. But the deeper she digs, the more dangerous her journey becomes.

Season 1 ended with Sophie embracing her former identity as Tess Caldwell and returning to the U.K. to track down Eliza (Millie Brady), whose bloody face has haunted her memories. The new trailer shows Sophie reconnecting with Eliza and her wealthy British family, the Huntleys. But their reunion is anything but simple. Eliza recalls how Sophie—whom she still knows as Tess—once worked at their family’s stables before vanishing without a trace.

As Sophie searches for answers, she reveals a shocking suspicion: her mother was murdered when she was young, and she believes the Huntleys were involved. “I have to go back to where it all started,” she tells Eliza. “With you, with your family.”

The trailer raises the stakes as whispers of the Huntleys’ dark history surface. “I’ve seen them erase people for much less,” one voice warns. Sophie sorts through old articles and police reports, uncovering a disturbing pattern of missing girls. When Phil Dunster’s Quinn, Eliza’s brother, learns of her investigation, he makes his stance clear. “She wants to expose the whole bloody thing,” he says, before delivering a chilling threat: “Leave us alone before it gets a lot worse.”

The season’s official synopsis teases a new world of deception, power, and hidden truths. As Sophie embeds herself in elite British society, she pieces together her past with the few clues she has. But everything changes when a journalist reaches out, revealing that they were once working together to expose a massive scandal—one that puts her in direct conflict with the dangerous people she’s now entangled with.

Alongside Mbatha-Raw, returning cast members include Oliver Jackson-Cohen as James and Millie Brady as Eliza. New additions include Phil Dunster (Ted Lasso) as Quinn, a privileged but troubled heir, as well as Freida Pinto (Slumdog Millionaire), Rupert Graves (Sherlock), Joely Richardson (Nip/Tuck), Gavin Drea (Daisy Jones & The Six), Tara Fitzgerald (Game of Thrones), and Nina Sosanya (Baby Reindeer).

Surface is produced by Apple Studios and Hello Sunshine, with Reese Witherspoon and Lauren Neustadter serving as executive producers. Creator Veronica West returns as showrunner, writer, and executive producer.

The psychological thriller’s second season premieres globally on Apple TV+ on Friday, February 21, 2025, with new episodes dropping weekly through April 11. Sophie’s past may have been erased, but the truth is finally coming into focus—no matter the cost.
