Get ready for more laughs, love, and body-positive fashion as Mavis Beaumont (Michelle Buteau) returns to Survival of the Thickest for season 2—and this time, she’s taking her journey to Rome. Yes, you heard that right—Mavis is officially in her European era, and things are about to get real interesting.

In the new trailer, Mavis, who co-created the series with Danielle Sanchez-Witzel and executive produces alongside showrunners Amy Aniobi and Sanchez-Witzel, declares, “If you like Emily in Paris, then you’re gonna love Mavis in Rome!” But don’t get too comfortable with the romance, because just like her rollercoaster love life, things take a turn. Mavis heads back to New York City, heart a little bruised, but back in the arms of her ever-supportive besties Khalil (Tone Bell) and Marley (Tasha Smith).
“I was a zombie, but now I’m back from the dead!” Mavis proclaims in true Mavis fashion. We love a comeback queen!
As the trailer unfolds, Mavis faces some tough decisions—cue the return of her Italian lover, Luca (Marouane Zotti). “I gotta make this big life decision,” Mavis tells him, but it looks like she might have found clarity. Enter a dance from a pantsless firefighter (yes, you read that correctly), and Mavis is embracing the final year of her 30s with gusto. “39 is going to be an amazing year! Why was I so scared of it?” she says, celebrating with Khalil and Marley. But Khalil, ever the straight shooter, asks, “You still trying to have kids?” Let’s just say, it’s a birthday vibe with some real talk.
As for Marley, she’s got Mavis’s back, quickly shutting down Khalil’s blunt inquiry with, “Why would you ask her something like that on her birthday?”
In season 2, Mavis is doubling down on her passion for fashion—specifically plus-size fashion. “Thick girls, we ain’t just the moment, we the movement, honey!” she declares, making it clear that the world’s ready for a shake-up in high fashion, and she’s here to lead the charge.
Of course, Mavis can’t do it alone. She teams up with Marley to bring her dream to life, and in a twist, Marley looks like she might be falling for someone new. But Khalil? Well, he’s going to therapy to deal with a creative block, and his therapist is about to get an earful. “You ask a lot of questions for somebody I don’t know! You wearing a wire?” Khalil jokes.
The show’s second season promises even more laughs, drama, and guest stars that’ll keep you glued to your screen. Returning to the show are Tone Bell, Liza Treyger, Peppermint, and Marouane Zotti, with a team of incredible female directors, including Kim Nguyen, Thembi Banks, Amy Aniobi, and Tasha Smith herself. The season will also feature exciting guest stars like Anderson .Paak, Tika Sumpter, Jonathan Chad Higginbotham, Deon Cole, and more.
The trailer alone has us ready for March 27, when Mavis takes her glow-up from NYC to Rome and beyond. If the first season was any indication, this season is going to be all about big laughs, bigger dreams, and a whole lot of heart.
