Sistas star KJ Smith is the latest cast addition to the second season of Starz/Lionsgate’s Power prequel series, Power Book III: Raising Kanan. Omar Dorsey, LeToya Luckett, Krystal Joy Brown, and Paulina Singer were previously added to Power Book III, season 2. All have been cast in recurring roles. Smith will star in a major recurring role as Palomar. She is one of Famous’s new neighbors and a young mom who’s frequently mistaken for her daughter, Corinne’s, older sister. Any responsible parent wouldn’t let their daughter within a mile of Kanan, Famous, and their friends. However sadly for her daughter Corinne, Palomar isn’t especially maternal, and instead of forbidding her child to hang out with Famous and Kanan, as any responsible parent would, she lets Corinne hang with the juvenile delinquents and wants to tag along. READ: 13 Powerful TV Episodes That Address Police Brutality and Racism Dorsey will play Cartier “Duns” Fareed, a charismatic businessman who is looking to expand into less crowded markets like D.C. and Baltimore — and even into other types of businesses. Luckett is cast as Kenya, Jukebox’s mom and Marvin’s ex-girlfriend. Kenya left the family when Jukebox was very young and tried to make it in Hollywood as a singer, but now is settled in Harlem, where church is a big part of her life. Brown has been cast as Renée Timmons, Marvin’s anger management therapist, while Singer will play Zisa, an up-and-coming vocalist looking to make a name for herself on Lou-Lou and Crown’s label. The Power prequel series comes from creator and showrunner Sascha Penn. It takes viewers back to the ’90s and the early years of the now-deceased Kanan Stark, portrayed in Courtney Kemp’s original series by Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson. READ: Gina Torres Joins Gabrielle Union, Keith Powers in Rom-Com The Perfect Find Season 1 of Power Book III began when Kanan is 15 and eager to join the drug organization run by his mother Raquel Thomas (Miller) and her brothers Lou-Lou (Mays) and Marvin (Brown). Raq wants a different life for him, but Kanan ultimately chooses the streets. The first season wrapped on Sunday, Sept. 26, with a dramatic conclusion setting up the next chapter of the show. Power Book III: Raising Kanan is executive produced by Kemp through her company End of Episode and Jackson through his G-Unit Film and Television. Penn is the creator/showrunner of Raising Kanan. Also executive producing are Mark Canton through his Atmosphere Entertainment MM, End of Episode’s Chris Selak and Danielle DeJesus, Shana Stein, Bart Wenrich and Kevin Fox with Rob Hardy executive producing and directing the premiere episode. Lionsgate TV produces the series for Starz.
