There's a new Michael Jackson documentary on the way, this time it will center on his biggest selling album of all time - Thriller. This will be the third documentary specifically focused on a Michael Jackson album. Spike Lee directed the previous two documentaries Bad 25 and Michael Jackson’s Journey from Motown to Off the Wall. Like previous, this new Michael Jackson documentary is currently untitled and is being told in collaboration with his estate as well as Sony Music Entertainment READ: Samuel L. Jackson, Don Cheadle, Kingsley Ben-Adir and More Star in ‘Secret Invasion’ Trailer Noted music historian, journalist and documentary filmmaker Nelson George is directing the Michael Jackson documentary which "takes fans back in time to the making of the record-breaking album and release of revolutionary short films that redefined the music video format and captivated audiences globally,” according to a release about the documentary. “’Billie Jean’ remains the most streamed Michael Jackson song and ‘Thriller’ is the only music video that has been inducted onto the elite National Film Registry of the Library of Congress." The Michael Jackson documentary will feature "never-before-seen footage and candid interviews.' It will chronicle “the point in Jackson’s career that launched the singer into mega-stardom. As well as created a pop culture phenomenon that is woven through the culture and continues to influence the worlds of music, television, dance, fashion and more to this day.” 40 years ago Jackson released Thriller, which solidified Jackson's official superstar status as a solo artist. The album sold 34 million copies in the U.S. alone and 100 million copies worldwide, won eight Grammy Awards and yielded seven top 10 singles. READ: 12 Poetic Justice Movie Facts You Didn’t Know About Along with “Billie Jean,” Thriller included the tracks “Beat It,” “Wanna Be Startin’ Something,” “Human Nature,” the title song “Thriller,” and “The Girl Is Mine,” a duet with Paul McCartney, among others. Epic Records released Thriller and Quincy Jones, who previously collaborated with Jackson on his other album, Off the Wall, produced it. Sony Music Entertainment will distribute the untitled Thriller film. Colin Hanks and Sean Stuart from Company Name serve as producers. John Branca and John McClain serve as Executive Producers. There currently is no release date on the Michael Jackson documentary.
