Tanzyn Crawford Joins Cast of ‘Game of Thrones’ Spinoff ‘A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms’

Production has officially commenced on HBO’s prequel drama series, “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms,” in Belfast, Ireland. Adapted from George R. R. Martin’s novella “The Hedge Knight,” the series delves into Westeros a century before the events of “Game of Thrones,” chronicling the adventures of Ser Duncan the Tall and his squire, Egg.

The series, which explores a time when the Targaryen dynasty still rules the Iron Throne and dragons are not yet a distant memory, has unveiled additions to its cast and crew. Joining the ensemble are Tanzyn Crawford (“Tiny Beautiful Things”), Finn Bennett (“True Detective: Night Country”), Bertie Carvel (“The Crown”), Daniel Ings (“Sex Education”), and Sam Spruell (“Small Axe: Mangrove”).

The official logline reads “A century before the events of “Game of Thrones,” two unlikely heroes wandered Westeros… a young, naïve but courageous knight, Ser Duncan the Tall, and his diminutive squire, Egg. Set in an age when the Targaryen line still holds the Iron Throne, and the memory of the last dragon has not yet passed from living memory, great destinies, powerful foes, and dangerous exploits all await these improbable and incomparable friends.”

Crawford takes on the role of Tanselle, while Bennett portrays Prince Aerion Targaryen, Carvel embodies Prince Baelor Targaryen, Ings portrays Ser Lyonel Baratheon, and Spruell assumes the character of Prince Maekar Targaryen.

The series will be helmed by director Sarah Adina Smith, known for her work on “Lessons In Chemistry” and “Hanna,” who will direct three of the six episodes. Executive producer Owen Harris will direct the remaining three episodes.

Written by George R. R. Martin and Ira Parker, the series is executive produced by Ryan Condal, Vince Gerardis, Owen Harris, and Sarah Bradshaw.
