Naomi Ackie (Blink Twice), David Tennant (Doctor Who), Jonathan Pryce (The Two Popes), Daniel Mays (Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget), and Henry Lloyd-Hughes (Killing Eve) are set to star alongside recently announced Helen Mirren, Pierce Brosnan, Ben Kingsley, and Celia Imrie in the upcoming film adaptation of ‘The Thursday Murder Club.’ Filming commences later this month.
Written and directed by Chris Columbus, the crime-comedy follows a group of retirees who gather to solve murders for fun but find themselves embroiled in a real-life case. Mirren, Kingsley, Brosnan, and Imrie portray the four members of the club: ex-spy Elizabeth, ex-psychiatrist Ibrahim, former union activist Ron, and ex-nurse Joyce respectively.
Ackie will play police officer Donna de Freitas and Pryce will play Elizabeth’s husband Stephen.
Producers Jennifer Todd and Chris Columbus helm the project with Holly Bario, Jeb Brody, Eleanor Columbus, and Jo Burn serving as executive producers. Based on Richard Osman’s 2020 novel, the film promises a standout British ensemble akin to the caliber seen in the Harry Potter series, according to Osman.
‘The Thursday Murder Club’ adds to Netflix and Amblin’s growing film partnership, including the upcoming ‘Carry-On’ starring Jason Bateman and Taron Egerton.
