Terra Potts Named Chief Marketing & Operations Officer at Proximity Media

Proximity Media has officially appointed veteran marketing executive Terra Potts as its new Chief Marketing & Operations Officer.

In this newly created leadership role, Potts will oversee all marketing and communications across the company’s film, television, unscripted, and audio divisions. She will also lead operational efficiencies, resource planning, and organizational development. Potts will report directly to Proximity founders Ryan Coogler, Zinzi Coogler, and Sev Ohanian. Her appointment is effective immediately.

Longtime Partner to Proximity

Potts has been consulting with Proximity for the past year, lending her expertise to several high-profile projects. That includes Sinners, which pulled in $365 million globally, as well as Marvel/Disney+’s Ironheart and Eyes of Wakanda, and NatGeo’s docuseries Hurricane Katrina: A Race Against Time.

The partnership between Potts and Proximity’s founders traces back nearly a decade. At Warner Bros. Pictures, where she spent more than 10 years and rose to EVP of Worldwide Marketing, Potts first worked with Ryan Coogler on 2015’s Creed, which grossed $173M worldwide and earned Sylvester Stallone an Academy Award nomination. She reunited with the Proximity team for 2021’s Judas and the Black Messiah, which earned six Academy Award nominations including Best Picture, with Daniel Kaluuya and H.E.R., D’Mile, and Tiara Thomas winning for Best Supporting Actor and Best Original Song. She again collaborated with the team on Space Jam: A New Legacy.

Endorsement from Leadership

“Terra has been a trusted partner to us for years,” said Ryan Coogler, Zinzi Coogler, and Sev Ohanian in a joint statement. “She brings a deep understanding of the industry, an instinct for emerging trends, and a sharp eye for connecting projects with audiences in meaningful ways. For the past several months, Terra’s counsel in the areas of marketing and operations has been invaluable to Proximity. We’re thrilled to now make her position official on our senior leadership team.”

Career Highlights

Beyond her work with Proximity, Potts’ Warner Bros. campaigns include Crazy Rich Asians, 42, Baz Luhrmann’s Elvis, the Conjuring universe, and several DC properties.

She began her career with awards strategist Lisa Taback, contributing to the Oscar-winning campaign for Crash and the politically charged Fahrenheit 9/11. At Lionsgate, she helped launch Tyler Perry’s Madea franchise and James Wan’s Saw series.

Her track record for building box office success and Academy Award campaigns positions her as a strong asset as Proximity continues to expand its creative and cultural footprint.
