Teyana Taylor Sets Feature Directorial Debut ‘Get Lite’ Starring Storm Reid Gets Spring 2027 Release

Paramount Pictures has officially dated Get Lite, the feature directorial debut from Teyana Taylor, for a wide theatrical release on April 9, 2027.

Set against the pulse of New York City, Get Lite follows a gifted but sheltered dance student who discovers purpose, connection, and chosen family in an unexpected place: the city’s subway dance scene. The film is positioned as a coming-of-age story rooted in movement, community, and self-discovery.

Storm Reid will star in the film and also produce through her banner A Seed & Wings Productions, alongside Kenya Barris and Anni Weisband for Khalabo Ink Society, and Bill Karesh of Offbrnd. Taylor will serve as executive producer.

The announcement arrives during a major career moment for Taylor. Her recent performance in One Battle After Another has earned widespread critical acclaim, along with a Golden Globe win for Best Supporting Actress and nominations from SAG-AFTRA, BAFTA, and the Academy Awards. On the music side, Taylor also landed her first Grammy nomination for her latest album, Escape Room—cementing her status as a true multihyphenate stepping confidently into filmmaking.

In addition to Get Lite, Paramount revealed dates for several upcoming releases. An untitled sports drama directed by Jonathan Levine, starring David Corenswet, will debut on Christmas 2026. Meanwhile, Potsy Ponciroli’s modern western The Rescue is set for January 29, 2027. The studio also locked in July 16, 2027, for an untitled event horror film.

For Taylor, Get Lite marks a natural next step—channeling her lifelong relationship with music, movement, and storytelling into a theatrical debut that puts New York culture front and center.
