‘The Davenports’ YA Adaptation Moves Forward at Prime Video With Sonja Warfield and Susan Fales-Hill On Board

As The Gilded Age continues to grow in popularity — especially among Black audiences drawn to its expanded storyline on Black wealth and influence — it’s worth noting that another series exploring similar themes is still in the works and gaining momentum.

The Gilded Age co-showrunner Sonja Warfield and And Just Like That… executive producer Susan Fales-Hill have officially joined The Davenports, the YA series adaptation currently in development at Prime Video. The duo will write and executive produce the project, which is a co-production between Amazon MGM Studios, Warner Bros. Television, and Alloy Entertainment. Leslie Morgenstein, Alloy’s president and chief creative officer, will executive produce through the company’s overall deal at WBTV.

Based on Krystal Marquis’ bestselling novel, The Davenports is a Bridgerton-style romantic period drama set in 1910 America. The series follows one of the few Black families of immense wealth and influence — led by William Davenport, a formerly enslaved man who built a fortune through vision and entrepreneurship. Surrounded by chandeliers, servants, and lavish parties, the Davenports’ daughters Olivia and Helen, along with their close friends, navigate love, class, and rebellion in a world that expects them to stay in line.

Beyond the glamour, the story delves into identity, ambition, and the cost of freedom — centering a rarely seen narrative of early 20th-century Black affluence and the young women redefining what legacy means.

Krystal Marquis’ debut novel, The Davenports, was released in January 2023 and quickly became a New York Times Bestseller. It was named a Kirkus Reviews Best Book of the Year, a #1 Indie Next Pick, and won the Heartland Booksellers Award.

The highly anticipated sequel, The Davenports: More Than This, will be released November 12, 2025, continuing the saga with weddings, heartbreaks, and new ambitions among Chicago’s Black elite.

The Davenports offers more than period romance — it’s a celebration of Black excellence, love, and legacy during an era often overlooked in mainstream storytelling. With Prime Video, Warner Bros. TV, and Alloy Entertainment behind it — and creative forces like Warfield and Fales-Hill leading the charge — this adaptation has all the makings of Prime Video’s next prestige hit.
