Peacock has renewed The Five Star Weekend for a second season. The pickup comes as the Jennifer Garner-led drama has become Peacock’s most-watched scripted series of all time, reaching 2.1 billion minutes watched since its July 9 premiere and ranking among Nielsen’s top five streaming original series in its first two weeks.
Originally announced as a limited series, The Five Star Weekend was always built with expansion in mind. Jennifer Garner, D’Arcy Carden, Regina Hall and Chloë Sevigny all have options in place to return for Season 2. There are currently no deals in place for Harlow Jane or Timothy Olyphant to return full-time. Gemma Chan’s character arc in the Season 1 finale effectively closed the door on her return as well.
As for where the series is headed, the Season 1 finale offered a clue when Hollis and her friends, wrapping up their Nantucket weekend, floated Greece as the destination for their next trip. Creator Bekah Brunstetter has also previously described a potential ski location, likening the show’s anthology-style approach to White Lotus, with each season taking the characters somewhere new.
Based on Elin Hilderbrand’s 2023 novel, the series centers on Hollis Shaw, a famed cook and author who suffers a devastating loss. Unable to move forward, she invites three friends from different stages of her life and one surprise guest for a weekend at her Nantucket home, where secrets are exposed and bonds are tested.
The series is executive produced by Brunstetter, Garner, Sue Naegle, Ali Krug, Minkie Spiro, Merri Howard, Beth Schacter and Hilderbrand. Universal Global Television is the studio. Hilderbrand’s novel has also returned to the New York Times bestsellers list following the show’s premiere.
