After five seasons, one of Apple TV’s most celebrated dramas is coming to an end. Apple TV has announced that The Morning Show will return for its fifth and final season in 2027, bringing the Emmy, SAG and Critics Choice Award-winning series to a close with an expanded ensemble and the same creative team that has guided it since its launch.
The series, which was among the flagship original titles that launched Apple TV in 2019, stars and is executive produced by Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon. The Season 5 cast also includes returning stars Billy Crudup, Karen Pittman, Nicole Beharie, Mark Duplass, Nestor Carbonell and Jon Hamm, alongside a wave of new additions including Jeff Daniels, Jesse Williams, Reneé Rapp, Sean Hayes, Sydney Park, Lizzy Caplan and Jeff Wilbusch.
Williams joins as Vernon, UBN’s newly appointed Head of News, described as a bold and disruptive force who thrives on stirring the pot. Park will play Leah, the new assistant to Cory Ellison. Wilbusch joins in a recurring role as Roman, Head of Protective Services for the UBN News Division.
“From the beginning, Apple has supported our vision for The Morning Show, and we feel so lucky to have had the opportunity to tell stories that reflect what’s happening in the world around us,” Aniston said. “Going in knowing it would be our last, we were so fortunate to craft the conclusion with intentionality and honor these characters the way they deserve.”
Witherspoon added, “This was always more than a show about a newsroom. It was a show about why the newsroom matters. About freedom of the press, and the journalists who protect the fourth estate, often at great cost. Telling that story has been the creative privilege of my career.”
The series has accumulated an impressive awards record across its four seasons. Crudup has won two Emmy Awards for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series for his portrayal of Cory Ellison, winning in both Season 1 and Season 3. Aniston won a SAG Award for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Drama Series for Season 1. Director and executive producer Mimi Leder has earned two Emmy nominations for Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series. Season 3 received 16 Emmy nominations and was named one of the AFI’s 10 best television programs of 2023.
Season 4, which aired on Apple TV and is now streaming globally, jumped ahead to spring 2024 in the aftermath of the UBA-NBN merger, with the newsroom navigating deepfakes, conspiracy theories and corporate cover-ups in an increasingly unstable media landscape. It welcomed guest stars Aaron Pierre, William Jackson Harper, Boyd Holbrook, Marion Cotillard and Jeremy Irons.
The Morning Show is showrun and executive produced by Charlotte Stoudt and directed and executive produced by Mimi Leder. The series is produced by Media Res, with executive producer Michael Ellenberg. Aniston executive produces alongside Kristin Hahn through Echo Films, while Witherspoon executive produces with Lauren Neustadter via Hello Sunshine. Zander Lehmann and Micah Schraft also serve as executive producers.
Season 5 is currently in production ahead of its 2027 premiere on Apple TV.
