ABC Renews 'The Rookie' for Seventh Season

ABC has officially renewed “The Rookie” for a seventh season, continuing its successful run as a popular police drama. The series, starring Nathan Fillion as John Nolan, has consistently attracted a sizable audience since its debut.

Season 6 of “The Rookie” premiered on February 20 after being delayed due to industry strikes. Despite the delay, the season garnered strong viewership, with the premiere episode reaching 11.9 million viewers across all platforms in the Live+35 ratings. This marked the show’s highest viewership since 2018, reflecting its enduring appeal.

Nathan Fillion leads an ensemble cast that includes Mekia Cox, Alyssa Diaz, Richard T. Jones, Melissa O’Neil, Eric Winter, Jenna Dewan, Shawn Ashmore, Tru Valentino, and Lisseth Chavez. The show follows John Nolan, who becomes the oldest rookie in the LAPD, bringing a unique perspective and skill set to the force.

“The Rookie” is created by Alexi Hawley, who also serves as an executive producer and showrunner alongside Fillion, Mark Gordon, Michelle Chapman, Brynn Malone, Bill Norcross, and Jon Steinberg. The series is produced by Lionsgate Television and ABC Signature, with Lionsgate handling international distribution.

The decision to renew “The Rookie” for another season aligns with ABC’s strategy of maintaining successful scripted shows in its lineup. The network has already announced the conclusion of “The Good Doctor” and “Station 19” after their current seasons.

Fans of “The Rookie” can look forward to more gripping episodes as the series continues to explore the challenges and triumphs of its characters in the dynamic world of law enforcement. The renewal reaffirms the show’s status as a strong performer and a key component of ABC’s programming slate.

“The Rookie” airs on ABC and is available for streaming on Hulu, providing viewers with multiple platforms to enjoy the compelling narrative and engaging performances that have made the show a hit.
