Tichina Arnold Makes Broadway Debut in Musical & Juliet, James Monroe Iglehart Returns to Cast

Tichina Arnold will make her Broadway debut as Angélique in & Juliet beginning November 3 at the Stephen Sondheim Theatre, joining the musical for its final stretch before closing January 3, 2027. James Monroe Iglehart returns the same night to reprise his role as Lance, alongside Aly Michalka, who debuts as Anne.

& Juliet reimagines Shakespeare’s tragedy by asking what happens if Juliet doesn’t die for Romeo and instead gets a second chance at life on her own terms, told through a soundtrack built entirely from Max Martin’s catalog of pop hits. Created by Emmy-winning Schitt’s Creek writer David West Read and directed by Luke Sheppard with choreography by Jennifer Weber, the production has grossed more than $175 million on Broadway since opening in November 2022 and earned nine Tony nominations, including Best Musical. It will close after more than 1,700 performances.

Arnold, widely known for Martin, Everybody Hates Chris, and The Neighborhood, which wrapped its eighth and final season earlier this year, brings decades of stage experience to the role, including past work in Debbie Allen’s Alex in Wonderland, a New York City Center revival of The Wiz, and the off-Broadway production Love, Loss, and What I Wore. Iglehart previously won a Tony for his performance as Genie in Aladdin and was Tony-nominated this year for A Wonderful World: The Louis Armstrong Musical. Current cast members Joey Fatone, Alison Luff, and Jeannette Bayardelle will play their final performances November 1, while Cyrus Veyssi made their own Broadway debut as May on October 13. Corey Mach, Spencer Sutherland, Anthony Gargiula, and Kenzie Ziegler have all extended their engagements through the show’s final performance.

Arnold’s casting lands at a specific moment in her career, following the end of her long-running sitcom role and a new first-look television deal with CBS Studios, where she’s developing new projects including a planned biographical series about a prominent female singer. She’s also currently starring in the family comedy feature Search Party: Where’s PawPaw? alongside Tommy Davidson. Her move into Broadway, alongside Iglehart’s return, reflects a broader pattern of established television and film performers using stage work to extend their range later in their careers, rather than Broadway serving primarily as a launching point for newer talent.

The production’s full cast includes Gianna Harris as Juliet, Paulo Szot alternating with Fatone as Lance, Corey Mach as Shakespeare, Spencer Sutherland as Romeo, Anthony Gargiula as François, and Kenzie Ziegler as Charmion, alongside Gabe Amato, Daniel Assetta, Reese Britts, Nicholas Cooper, Jhailyn Paige Farcon, Makai Hernandez, Joomin Hwang, Megan Kane, Alaina Ví Maderal, Daniel J. Maldonado, Mackenzie Meadows, Esosa Oviasu, Kayla Saunders, TJ Tapp, Zalah Vallien, Darien Van Rensalier, and Romy Vuksan. The creative team includes musical supervision, orchestrations, and arrangements by Bill Sherman, scenic design by Soutra Gilmour, costume design by Paloma Young, lighting design by Howard Hudson, sound design by Gareth Owen, video projection design by Andrzej Goulding, hair, wig, and makeup design by J. Jared Janas, and musical direction by Dominic Fallacaro. & Juliet is produced on Broadway by Max Martin, Tim Headington, Theresa Steele Page, Jenny Petersson, Martin Dodd, and Eva Price.

With the show’s closing date now fixed, Arnold and Iglehart’s arrival turns the production’s final months into something closer to a curtain call years in the making, raising the question of who else might join before the lights go down for good.
