The story did not end with the sentence. And it did not end with the release. Fox Rich is making sure the world knows that.
Time II: Unfinished Business, the sequel to the Oscar-nominated documentary Time, premieres on Amazon Prime Video on June 19, Juneteenth, a date that carries the weight of its meaning deliberately.
The original film, directed by Garrett Bradley and released in 2020, introduced the world to Sibil “Fox” Richardson and her husband Robert “Rob” Richardson through two decades of home video diaries documenting her fight to free Rob from Louisiana State Penitentiary, where he served 21 years at Angola after receiving a 60 to 61 year sentence without the possibility of parole following a bank robbery in which he was a first-time offender. He received clemency in 2018. The film earned an Academy Award nomination and reached millions.
This time, Fox steps behind the camera herself as director. Time II picks up in the aftermath of Rob’s release and turns its lens toward what freedom actually looks like once the cameras are supposed to be gone. At the center of the sequel is their nephew Ontario Smith, Rob’s fall partner, who remains incarcerated on a 45-year sentence and whose release Fox and Rob have committed to fighting for with the same relentless force that brought Rob home.
“TIME II: Unfinished Business offers audiences an unflinching view of the lengths these extraordinary individuals will go to alter their family’s fate,” reads the film’s official description, “a pursuit that proves ‘To Be Free is to Free Others.'”
The film arrives as the centerpiece of the broader Time II Watch campaign, which calls on audiences to take a Pledge for Freedom and engage directly with clemency and criminal justice reform efforts. Fox and Rob are also co-founders of PDMNOLA, which runs a weekly participatory defense hub helping families navigate the legal system.
The night before the premiere, the Richardsons will celebrate at the 5th Annual Freedom For All Sneaker Ball on June 18 at the New Orleans Jazz Museum, with a red carpet beginning at 6 PM. The official Freedom Anthem drops June 17 on Spotify.
Time II: Unfinished Business premieres June 19, 2026 on Amazon Prime Video.
