Another familiar face is making her way back to the world of high fashion.
Tracie Thoms will reprise her role as Lily, the sharp-tongued, handbag-loving best friend to Anne Hathaway’s Andy Sachs, in The Devil Wears Prada 2. She joins returning cast members Meryl Streep, Hathaway, Emily Blunt, Stanley Tucci, and Tibor Feldman—who is also confirmed to return as Irv Ravitz, chairman of Runway’s parent company, Elias-Clark.
The sequel, backed by Disney’s 20th Century Studios, is currently filming and set to hit theaters on May 1, 2026.
Plot details remain mostly under wraps, but the story reportedly follows Miranda Priestly (Streep) navigating the digital age and the collapse of the print industry, while going head-to-head with her former assistant Emily Charlton (Blunt), now a powerful fashion executive in control of the ad dollars Miranda needs to keep Runway relevant.
Alongside the original cast, a fresh slate of new faces are joining the world of high fashion and higher stakes. Lucy Liu, Justin Theroux, B.J. Novak, and Pauline Chalamet have all signed on in undisclosed roles—though the fashion world better watch out. Broadway stars Helen J. Shen (Maybe Happy Ending) and Conrad Ricamora (Oh, Mary!), plus comedian Caleb Hearon, are also joining the call sheet.
David Frankel is back in the director’s chair, reuniting with screenwriter Aline Brosh McKenna, who adapted the first film from Lauren Weisberger’s bestselling novel inspired by her time working for Vogue’s Anna Wintour. Karen Rosenfelt also returns to produce.
The original 2006 film was both a critical and commercial success, earning over $326 million globally and landing two Academy Award nominations—for Meryl Streep as Best Actress and Patricia Field for Best Costume Design.
With returning icons, exciting new characters, and the same razor-sharp edge, The Devil Wears Prada 2 is shaping up to be a sequel worth the wait.
