Get a First Look at Lakeith Stanfield and Zack Fox in the Trailer for Neon’s Stoner Comedy ‘The Wrong Girls’

Neon has released the first trailer for The Wrong Girls, the feature directorial debut of writer-director Dylan Meyer, the kind of chaotic, weed-fueled odyssey hitting theaters August 14.

Kristen Stewart and Alia Shawkat lead the film as Frankie and Molly, two codependent best friends who never entirely grew up. When Frankie is mistakenly handed a briefcase full of glowing vials of an experimental psychedelic, the two ingest the drugs and find themselves with lingering telepathic abilities, including the power to read their cats’ minds. They are also now being pursued by white-suited Danish villains who want their property back.

The ensemble cast includes Lakeith Stanfield as action man NotMetalHeadDave, Kate McKinnon as the Danish scientist who created the drugs, Geena Davis as her partner, Zack Fox as Molly’s boyfriend, Tony Hale as a real estate developer, and Seth Rogen and Kumail Nanjiani as the voices of Frankie and Molly’s cats.

Meyer, who wrote the script years ago and developed it with producer and longtime friend Maggie McLean, has cited Smiley Face, Pineapple Express, The Big Lebowski and Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion as influences. She set out to fill a gap she noticed in the genre. “I don’t think there’s a single stoner female buddy movie,” Meyer said in the film’s press notes. “I really related to The Dude, and I realized there was a lack of female characters like that.”

Stewart has been vocal about her enthusiasm for the project for years. “Dylan wrote that script years ago and we are producing it now,” she said in a 2025 interview. “I’m doing backflips about it.”

The Wrong Girls opens in theaters August 14.
