Netflix has released the first trailer for Trinity, an eight-episode political thriller starring Gugu Mbatha-Raw and Richard Madden, set to premiere Tuesday, December 1. The series comes from Jed Mercurio, creator of Line of Duty, who serves as writer, showrunner, and executive producer.
Trinity follows Commander Katherine Decker, played by Mbatha-Raw, a naval officer who comes into contact with Secretary of Defense Webb Preston, played by Madden, after a submarine comes seconds away from wrongfully deploying a nuclear weapon. As the two work together to protect Decker’s crew and uncover the full scope of the threat, Decker begins to suspect Preston may be hiding something far more dangerous than the incident itself, pulling her directly into the conspiracy he may be at the center of.
The cast also includes Kirk Acevedo as Captain Jock Campbell, Wern Lee as Lee Jones, and Mike Dopud as Waylon Kelly, alongside Marcia Gay Harden, JD Pardo, Bruce Greenwood, Robert Wisdom, Ben Cotton, James Remar, Jason Ralph, and Mark O’Brien. Bradley Gardner and Wendy Mericle also executive produce, alongside Jimmy Mulville for HTM Television, with 20th Television serving as the studio.
With a premise built around a near-catastrophic nuclear incident and a secretary of defense whose motives grow murkier by the episode, Trinity arrives positioned as one of Netflix’s higher-stakes political thrillers heading into December, betting on Mercurio’s track record for tension-driven, institutionally grounded drama to carry the series.
