Tuskegee University’s Historic Inaugural NCAA Soccer Season to Be Documented in New Docuseries ‘Unveiling History’

Tuskegee University is making history on the soccer field for the first time in its 145-year history, and cameras will be there to capture every moment. Production begins July 31 on Unveiling History, a documentary series chronicling the inaugural season of Tuskegee University’s first NCAA men’s and women’s soccer programs.

Filming begins as student-athletes arrive on campus for move-in day, following players, coaches and university leaders as they build two programs from the ground up while carrying forward the legacy of one of the nation’s most storied HBCUs. The series explores leadership, opportunity, identity, resilience and legacy through the lens of Tuskegee’s newest athletic programs, capturing everything from recruiting and establishing team culture to balancing academics and competition.

“We hope our success demonstrates that investing in soccer creates new opportunities for student-athletes, expands enrollment, and broadens the reach of HBCU athletics,” said Tuskegee Athletic Director Reginald Ruffin. “If Tuskegee’s inaugural season encourages other HBCUs to embrace the world’s game, it will strengthen the entire HBCU landscape and create even greater opportunities for future generations.”

The inaugural men’s and women’s teams are led by Head Men’s Coach Matthew Tarpley and Head Women’s Coach Emmanuel Stephens, both selected following a national search. “To make history at such a historic university is truly inspiring,” said Tarpley. Stephens added, “Our mission is simple: Set the Standard. Start the Legacy. Everything we do is about building something that will last long after we’re gone.”

Unveiling History is created, written and executive produced by Atlanta-based writer-producer Brian Egeston, whose credits include NBC’s Perfect Harmony, BET’s The Quad, the Paramount+ reboot of The Game and the Amazon Prime Video feature On a Wing and a Prayer starring Dennis Quaid, as well as serving as Head Writer at Tyler Perry Studios. The series is produced in association with Horne Brothers Films, led by director-producer Bryon Horne.

“Soccer is personal for me,” said Horne. “I’ve spent years alongside my son through his national team soccer journey, witnessing the sacrifice, discipline, disappointments, and victories. When the opportunity came to document Tuskegee soccer, I knew we weren’t simply filming games, we were preserving the beginning of something much bigger.”

For Egeston, the project is deeply personal. “As a second-generation HBCU graduate, soccer dad, and certified soccer referee, all of my worlds have come together for this historic moment,” he said. “We’re not simply documenting a season, we’re preserving the beginning of a legacy.”

Founded in 1881, Tuskegee University is internationally recognized for the legacies of Booker T. Washington, George Washington Carver and the Tuskegee Airmen. The launch of its first NCAA soccer programs in 2026 opens a significant new chapter in the university’s athletic tradition.

A distributor for Unveiling History has not yet been announced.
