Fans of the hit superhero series “Peacemaker” have reason to celebrate as the second season is officially underway. After more than two years since the conclusion of its first season, DC Studios co-chairman and co-CEO James Gunn took to Instagram to share the exciting news with a selfie reflected in Peacemaker’s iconic headgear.
Starring John Cena as the titular character, “Peacemaker” follows the adventures of the violent yet complex hero as he navigates a world where peace often comes at a staggering cost. Alongside Cena, the first season featured an ensemble cast including Danielle Brooks, Chukwudi Iwuji, Jennifer Holland, Steve Agee, and Robert Patrick as Peacemaker’s father, White Dragon.
In the Instagram post captioned “Day 1 S2,” Gunn included a mermaid emoji, a playful nod to the show’s fans. In the first season, character Vigilante, portrayed by Freddie Stroma, expressed his fondness for the mermaid emoji, interpreting it as symbolizing a range of emotions from happiness to sadness. Gunn, who created and directed the first season, is set to return in the same capacity for the second season.
Reflecting on the first season and hinting at what’s to come, Gunn emphasized the importance of character development, stating, “The most important thing for me in the first season was who Peacemaker was and where was he going.” He added, “I know where Peacemaker starts and where he ends, but I’m playing with other ideas around that and how that’s gonna play out.”
“Peacemaker” was renewed for a second season ahead of its first season finale, following a successful debut on the streaming platform. Produced by Gunn’s Troll Court Entertainment and The Safran Company in association with Warner Bros. Television, the series has garnered praise for its unique blend of superhero action and irreverent humor.
