Beauty in Black Season 4 Kicks Off Production, Teases “Survival Is Not Guaranteed”

Tyler Perry’s Beauty in Black has kicked off production on Season 4 in Atlanta, Georgia, Netflix announced. The show joins a growing lineup of Netflix productions filmed in the city, including Perry’s Where There’s Smoke and Give Me Some Sugah, along with A Different World Season 1, Scooby-Doo: Origins, Stranger Things, His & Hers, and All the Sinners Bleed.

Season 4 picks up in the bloody aftermath of Season 3’s finale, in which Jules launched a violent shootout at Rain’s club to avenge his son, the Bellarie brothers Norman and Horace shot each other with both fates left unresolved, and Kimmie and Mallory’s survival remained unconfirmed. The new season’s official logline promises a ruthless battle for control of the Bellarie empire as hidden motives surface, marriages unravel, and old scores get settled, with producers warning that “not everyone will survive.” Perry, who created, writes, directs, and executive produces the series, said “the Bellarie family’s story is far from finished.” Angi Bones and Tony Strickland produce for Tyler Perry Studios.

Netflix’s own Season 4 announcement carries a pointed warning: “Survival is not guaranteed. Cast details to be revealed at a later date.” Given how many major characters were left in uncertain, life-threatening situations heading into the new season, that line reads less like standard casting secrecy and more like a direct signal that some of Season 3’s ensemble may not make it back.

Season 3’s cast includes Taylor Polidore Williams, Crystle Stewart, Amber Reign Smith, Xavier Smalls, Ricco Ross, Julian Horton, Steven G. Norfleet, Richard Lawson, Terrell Carter, Bryan Tanaka, Charles Malik Whitfield, and Debbi Morgan, with additional cast members Bailey Tippen, Rodrigo Aburto, Randall J. Bacon, George Middlebrook, Greg Clarkson, Jasmine Burke, Aria Celeste Castillo, Gianmarco Duin, Philemon Chambers, Philip Boyd, Ty Anthony, Deeric Williams, Herb Magwood, Tre McBride, Kevin Savage, Jazmine Robinson, Kaja Brielle, Shay Mack, Steven Rho, Aaron Serotsky, Mikeal L Dwayne Griggs, Sara Spadacene, D’kia Anderson, Antoine Williams, Ty Courtad, Raven Chambers, Michael Butler, Jillmarie Lawrence, and Jim Braswell.

The show has consistently been one of Netflix’s strongest global performers: Season 1 spent seven weeks in the Global Top 10 and hit number one in 28 countries, Season 2 spent six weeks in the Global Top 10 and reached number one in 17 countries, and Season 3 spent four weeks in the Global Top 10 and hit number one in 22 countries.

With production now officially underway, the next thing to watch is which familiar faces from Season 3 actually return, and which cliffhangers Perry chooses to resolve first once casting and a premiere date are finally revealed.
