Netflix has released the trailer for Tyson, a four-part documentary series chronicling the life of the former heavyweight champion, set to premiere on the platform October 13.
The series traces Tyson’s path “from his chaotic upbringing in Brooklyn to global superstardom,” per the official synopsis, tracking his rise as the youngest heavyweight champion in history alongside the turbulence of fame, controversy, and personal struggle that nearly derailed him. Described as “unfiltered and deeply personal,” the series is billed as a portrait of “greatness, fall, and redemption.”
Tyson is directed by Floyd Russ and produced by Jenna Millman, Jacob Miller, and Alexa Ginsburg. David Bolen and Jacob Moller serve as directors of photography, with editing by Wax Taber and Dan Duran and music by Raffertie. Jim Gray, Ian Orefice, Amanda Spain, Jonna McLaughlin, Greg C. Lake, Michael Hughes, Douglas Banker, Russ, and Bill Simmons executive produce. The series runs four episodes at 60 minutes each.
Alongside the docuseries announcement, Netflix also revealed a first look at Mike Tyson: Return of the Mike, a one-man stand-up special set to launch on the platform November 3. Filmed at Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, Florida, the special marks Tyson’s first return to the stage since his 2013 show Undisputed Truth. Rather than menace, Netflix describes Tyson leaning into comedy, tackling subjects including addiction and mental health while “turning his own chaos into punchlines.” The official logline calls it proof that “the baddest man on the planet might also be one of the funniest.”
Return of the Mike is directed by Kiki Tyson, with Mike Tyson, Kiki Tyson, and Marc Lieberman serving as executive producers. The special is produced by Above Average.
