PBS KIDS has revealed the voice cast for its upcoming animated STEM series Weather Hunters, premiering on July 7, 2025. Produced by Al Roker Entertainment, helmed by Emmy-winning Today host Al Roker, the series is designed to engage kids aged 5-8 in learning about Earth science and meteorology through adventure, comedy, and family stories.
The voice cast includes Al Roker, Tandi Fomukong, Holly Robinson Peete, Kapri Ladd, Lorenzo Ross, Sheryl Lee Ralph, and LeVar Burton.
Each 22-minute episode of Weather Hunters follows Lily Hunter and her family as they investigate weather mysteries and share their findings with the community. The series explores topics like tracking weather patterns, understanding climate change, and how weather connects to human activity and the environment.
Actress Yvette Nicole Brown (Community) performs the series’ theme song, adding an energetic and engaging element to the show.
Roker not only produces the show but also voices Al Hunter, a TV weathercaster and the father of Lily Hunter. Tandi Fomukong stars as Lily, an 8-year-old weather detective who approaches each mystery with curiosity and determination. Holly Robinson Peete voices Dot Hunter, Lily’s mom and the producer of the family’s weathercasts.
Kapri Ladd voices Corky, Lily’s 11-year-old sister and a budding documentarian, while Lorenzo Ross plays Benny, the family’s 5-year-old creative mind who captures weather through his drawings. Sheryl Lee Ralph voices Ms. Joyce, the Hunters’ insightful neighbor, while LeVar Burton plays Wallace Reed Hunter, Lily’s great-grandfather and an original WWII Tuskegee weatherman who inspires Lily’s love for science and weather exploration.
“Weather Hunters has been a labor of love, and I’m thrilled to see this talented cast bring the Hunter family to life,” said Roker. “Working with incredible voices like Sheryl Lee Ralph, Holly Robinson Peete, and LeVar Burton makes this show even more special.”
To enhance the educational experience, Weather Hunters will also launch digital resources for kids, parents, and educators. These include games, such as creating personalized weather reports, and activities designed to encourage hands-on STEM exploration.
Created by Al Roker, the series is executive produced by Dete Meserve (Ready Jet Go!), Carin Greenberg (Tumble Leaf), John Semper Jr. (Fraggle Rock), and Lisa Tucker. Animation is produced by Island of Misfits in Nova Scotia, Canada. Educational guidance is provided by Dr. Sara B. Sweetman of the University of Rhode Island and meteorologist Ethan Greenberg.
Funded by the Anne Ray Foundation, PBS, and the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, Weather Hunters premieres on PBS KIDS in English and Spanish, inviting children to explore the science of weather and its impact on the world around them.
