Will Smith and Michael Bay may be gearing up for a reunion three decades after the launch of their iconic “Bad Boys” franchise. Bay is currently in talks to direct the upcoming Netflix action-thriller Fast and Loose, which will star Smith in the lead role. While the deal isn’t officially closed, sources confirm that both Bay and Smith are circling the project with plans to collaborate once again.
Fast and Loose centers on a man who wakes up in Tijuana with no memory of his past. As he pieces together fragments of his life, he discovers he’s been living a double existence—one as a notorious crime boss and the other as a covert CIA operative. The action-packed script was penned by Jon Hoeber, Erich Hoeber, Chris Bremner, and Eric Pearson.

The film has been in development since before the 2022 Oscars, where Smith’s controversial on-stage incident overshadowed his career for a brief period. David Leitch was originally slated to direct the project but exited just before the Oscars to work on The Fall Guy, leaving the door open for Bay’s potential return to helm the film.
Producers for the Netflix project include Smith, Kelly McCormick, and David Leitch under the 87North banner, alongside Westbrook Studios’ co-president Jon Mone and Ryan Shimazaki, who are in negotiations to produce with James Lassiter. Robert Simonds and Noah Fogelson from STXfilms, along with Barry Waldman, will serve as executive producers.
Bay and Smith have a long history, first teaming up for the original Bad Boys in 1995, which marked Bay’s directorial debut and helped cement Smith’s status as a Hollywood A-lister. Their collaboration continued with the successful sequel, Bad Boys II in 2003, and Smith most recently reprised his role alongside Martin Lawrence in 2023’s Bad Boys: Ride or Die, further solidifying his place as a sought-after action star.
With Netflix still seeking blockbuster projects, the potential reunion between Smith and Bay for Fast and Loose has generated considerable industry buzz. For Bay, this would mark another major Netflix release following his work on 6 Underground and Ambulance, both of which performed well on the streaming platform.
While a start date for Fast and Loose hasn’t been confirmed, this action-packed reunion of two major Hollywood players could be Smith’s next big move following his departure from Sugar Bandits, another high-profile thriller he was previously attached to.
