William Jackson Harper Joins Elisabeth Moss in Hulu Legal Drama Conviction

William Jackson Harper has joined the main cast of Conviction, Hulu’s upcoming legal drama starring and executive produced by Elisabeth Moss.

Harper joins previously announced series regulars Jimmi Simpson, Kevin McKidd, Sebastian De Souza, Adam Godley, Linda Emond and Ella Anderson in the drama written by House and The Good Doctor creator David Shore. Details about the characters are not being revealed.

Conviction follows criminal defense attorney Neve Harper, played by Moss, a confident lawyer who finally lands a career-making case: a high-profile murder in which a husband is accused of killing his wife by setting their home on fire. When a mysterious stranger begins blackmailing Neve, she is forced to compromise every legal, moral and ethical obligation to secure an acquittal or risk having her own dark secrets exposed. The series is based on the 2023 novel of the same name by Jack Jordan.

Harper earned an Emmy nomination in 2020 for his role as Chidi on NBC’s The Good Place and a Tony nomination in 2024 for his performance opposite Steve Carell in Uncle Vanya. He is coming off the fourth season of The Morning Show on Apple TV+ and Marvel’s Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, and will next be seen opposite Jon Hamm in the MGM+ series American Hostage. He recently completed production on the FX limited series Cry Wolf alongside Olivia Colman and the indie film The Life and Deaths of Wilson Shedd, directed by Tim Blake Nelson.

Conviction is executive produced by Shore and Erin Gunn via Shore Z Productions, Moss and Lindsey McManus via Love & Squalor Pictures, Warren Littlefield, Ann Johnson and Lisa Harrison via The Littlefield Co., Bert Salke via Co-Lab21 and author Jack Jordan. The series is produced by 20th Television.
