Mr. & Mrs. Smith has cast another of its titular characters. Yonatan Gebeyehu has boarded the upcoming second season of the Prime Video spy drama, which has been filming in Los Angeles County, Deadline reports.
He joins fellow Mr. Smiths Mark Eydelshteyn and Matt Rogers, who were previously cast as characters using the alias. On the Mrs. Smith side, Talia Ryder and Francesca Scorsese are among those in the role, with Ryder stepping in after Sophie Thatcher departed the project due to scheduling conflicts with Yellowjackets. Eydelshteyn and Ryder are said to play a couple the way Donald Glover and Maya Erskine did in Season 1. Glover and Erskine are believed to be reprising their original John Smith and Jane Smith roles, though to what extent remains unclear. Levon Hawke has also joined the expanded roster for the new season. Plot details are being kept under wraps.
From co-creators and executive producers Glover and Francesca Sloane, Mr. & Mrs. Smith reimagines the 2005 New Regency film. Glover is set to direct multiple episodes in Season 2, after helming the Season 1 finale. Anna Ouyang Moench, known for her work on Severance and Beef, takes over as showrunner and writer for Season 2, alongside Glover, succeeding Season 1 co-creator and showrunner Sloane in that role. Yariv Milchan, Michael Schaefer, Stephen Glover, Anthony Katagas and Fam Udeorji return as executive producers, joined by Erskine.
Mr. & Mrs. Smith earned 16 Emmy nominations for its first season in 2024, winning two. No release date for Season 2 has been announced, though a 2027 launch appears likely.
Gebeyehu comes from a theater background, having performed at Off-Broadway venues including Theatre for a New Audience, Manhattan Theatre Club, Clubbed Thumb and Bedlam, along with international and regional theaters. On television, he has had guest-starring roles on Fox’s Prodigal Son and CBS’s Elementary and Madam Secretary. He recently had a small role in the film One Night Only, headlined by Monica Barbaro and Callum Turner.
