Netflix has unveiled an explosive trailer for Zack Snyder’s upcoming film, “Rebel Moon — Part One: A Child of Fire,” scheduled for a limited one-week theatrical release on December 15, followed by a wide streaming release on Netflix on December 22. The epic space adventure, set in the same universe as Snyder’s “Army of the Dead,” features Sofia Boutella, Ed Skrein, Cleopatra Coleman, and Cary Elwes.

The star-studded cast includes Djimon Hounsou, Michiel Huisman, Ray Fisher, Charlie Hunnam, and Anthony Hopkins.

The plot revolves around Kora (Boutella), a stranger with a mysterious past, who crash-lands on a distant moon in the universe. After landing she begins a new life among a peaceful settlement of farmers. But she soon becomes their only hope for survival when the tyrannical Regent Balisarius (Fra Fee) and his cruel emissary, Admiral Noble (Ed Skrein), discover the farmers have unwittingly sold their crops to the Bloodaxes (Cleopatra Coleman and Ray Fisher) — leaders of a fierce group of insurgents hunted by the Motherworld.

Tasked with finding fighters who would risk their lives to defend the people of Veldt, Kora and Gunnar (Michiel Huisman), a tenderhearted farmer naive in the realities of war, journey to different worlds in search of the Bloodaxes. Along the way they assemble a small band of warriors who share a common need for redemption. Those people are Kai (Charlie Hunnam), a pilot and gun for hire; General Titus (Djimon Hounsou), a legendary commander; Nemesis (Doona Bae), a master swordswoman; Tarak (Staz Nair), a captive with a regal past; and Milius (E. Duffy), a resistance fighter. Back on Veldt, Jimmy (voiced by Anthony Hopkins), an ancient mechanized protector hiding in the wings, awakens with a new purpose. But the newly formed revolutionaries must learn to trust each other and fight as one before the armies of the Motherworld come to destroy them all.

The trailer promises an otherworldly adventure, and the film will have theatrical screenings in Los Angeles, New York City, Toronto, and London before its Netflix release. Watch the trailer below.

Directed by Snyder, with a screenplay by Snyder, Kurt Johnstad, and Shay Hatten, “Rebel Moon” is produced by Deborah Snyder, Eric Newman, Zack Snyder, and Wesley Coller. The executive producers include Bergen Swanson, Sarah Bowen, Shay Hatten, and Kurt Johnstad.

“Rebel Moon Part 2: The Scargiver” is set to premiere on April 19, 2024, and both parts will have director’s cuts available for adult audiences. Snyder originally wrote a 172-page script, envisioning a three-hour plus movie. However, Netflix and Snyder agreed to split it into two parts.

Director’s cuts of both parts of “Rebel Moon” will stream on Netflix as well.

Snyder, in an interview with Total Film, revealed a connection between “Rebel Moon” and “Army of the Dead,” sharing that a character from the former appears in the animated series of the latter. The film’s mythology expands on the vast universe introduced in “Army of the Dead.”
