Winterlight Pictures, Paperclip Ltd, and Kravitz’s company, This Is Important, will co-produce the film. Kravitz comes to the project after completing her directorial debut, “Pussy Island,” a thriller she co-wrote and starred in with Naomi Ackie and Channing Tatum. Winterlight Pictures founder Chris Goldberg praised both Roupenian and Kravitz, saying, “there is nobody who has broken out in the world of short stories quite like Kristen Roupenian” and that Kravitz is “quickly emerging as one of the world’s biggest movie stars.”
“Biter” is one of several short story-based projects being produced by Paperclip Ltd and Winterlight Pictures. The companies have collaborated with several authors, including Duane Swierczynski and Christian Cantrell, on various film and TV projects.
Roupenian’s viral New Yorker short story, “Cat Person,” recently premiered as a Susanna Fogel-directed adaptation at the Sundance Film Festival. The story is a darkly comedic thriller that explores modern dating and power dynamics.
