Directed by Jeremy Saulnier, ‘Rebel Ridge’ follows Terry Richmond (Aaron Pierre), who heads to the small town of Shelby Springs to bail out his cousin. Terry finds himself up against the town’s powerful police chief, Sandy Burnne (Don Johnson), and his team. With the help of court clerk Summer McBride (AnnaSophia Robb), Terry uncovers a deep conspiracy gripping the town. As the stakes rise, Terry must rely on his mysterious past to fight the corrupt system and protect his family and Summer.

The film boasts a strong supporting cast, including David Denman, Emory Cohen, Steve Zissis, Zsané Jhé, Dana Lee, and James Cromwell. Produced by Anish Savjani, Neil Kopp, Vincent Savino, and Saulnier, with executive producers Daniel Jason Heffner, Macon Blair, and Louise Lovegrove, ‘Rebel Ridge’ dives into themes of corruption and morality within a high-octane thriller format.

Saulnier, known for exploring corrupt systems and the justifications behind them, said, “I am very interested in examining corrupt systems — how they are built and what people tell themselves to disavow or justify their own part in them.” He aimed to explore individual reactions to these systems, creating tension through both action and dialogue.

The film’s production was fraught with challenges, including three delays. Filming began in April 2020 but halted due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Production resumed later that year, but then-lead star John Boyega exited amid disputes over accommodations and the script, which he denied. The team had to pause and recast, finally resuming with Pierre in 2022. Despite the setbacks, ‘Rebel Ridge’ is ready to captivate audiences.

Don’t miss ‘Rebel Ridge’ on Netflix this September 6.
