Aja Naomi King has joined Prime Video’s new horror thriller series Stillwater as a series regular, Deadline reports, alongside fellow cast members Ben Hardy, Lauren Cohan, Mark O’Brien, Mia Tomlinson, Tom Hollander, and newcomer Beau Young.
Stillwater is an adaptation of the Skybound graphic novel by Chip Zdarsky and Ramón K Pérez, led by Hardy as Daniel West, an ex-con who receives a mysterious letter promising answers about his past and a substantial inheritance, only to discover a town where nothing ages, no one dies, and no one ever truly leaves. Cohan plays Catherine “Cat” Keegan, a former homecoming queen whose small-town charm has hardened into something fiercer after decades of old grudges, with O’Brien as her sheriff’s deputy husband Ted and Tomlinson as her younger sister, Laura Quinn.
King plays Sheriff Tanya Green, Stillwater’s relentless chief enforcer, described as compact, unpredictable, and sharp as a blade. Unlike everyone else in town, Tanya is an outsider, recently invited into the community and awarded the role of sheriff by Judge Jack Taylor, though the nature of their connection remains unclear. Hollander plays Taylor himself, the de facto leader of Stillwater, a man who carries both the warmth of a country preacher and the cold edge of a cult leader, and who designed the strict system keeping the town’s mysterious nature hidden from the outside world. Young plays Galen Keegan, a character frozen at age 10 by a mysterious event called E-Day, which halted his physical aging while his mind kept developing, leaving him with an innocent appearance but, as the show frames it, the mind of something far more dangerous.
For King, the role continues a run of high-profile, genre-spanning work. She earned Emmy, Critics Choice, and NAACP Image Award nominations for her performance opposite Brie Larson in Apple TV+’s Lessons in Chemistry, and is known for How to Get Away with Murder and Grosse Pointe Garden Society. She’s currently filming an untitled Netflix spy comedy directed by McG, reuniting with Kevin Hart alongside Henry Cavill, Jason Isaacs, and Justine Lupe, in a film following two rival spies whose double lives collide when their wives become friends at a Lamaze class.
The eight-episode series is executive produced by Greg Berlanti and Carly Wray, who co-wrote the pilot, alongside Sarah Schechter, Leigh London Redman, and Robbie Rogers for Berlanti Productions, and Robert Kirkman, David Alpert, Rick Jacobs, Glenn Geller, and Zdarsky for Skybound Entertainment.
With a cast this stacked now fully in place, the next thing to watch is how Stillwater‘s central mystery, a town where no one ages and no one leaves, unfolds once production details and a premiere date are revealed.
