Alexandra Metz (The Pitt) has joined the cast of Will Trent for Season 5, taking on the series regular role of Birdie Palmer.
Based on Karin Slaughter’s New York Times bestselling Will Trent book series, the show follows Special Agent Will Trent (Ramón Rodríguez) of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, who was abandoned at birth and endured a harsh coming-of-age in Atlanta’s overwhelmed foster care system. Will now uses his unique point of view in the pursuit of justice and has the highest clearance rate in the GBI.
Birdie is the newly appointed Deputy Director of the GBI, confident, ambitious and razor-sharp, but deeply guarded by a life-altering event from her past. She’s taking over the role following the death of Amanda Wagner (Sonja Sohn) in Season 4.
The series also stars Erika Christensen as Angie Polaski, Iantha Richardson as Faith Mitchell, Jake McLaughlin as Michael Ormewood and Kevin Daniels as Franklin Wilks.
Metz currently recurs on HBO Max’s The Pitt as Dr. Yolanda Garcia and will return for that show’s third season. The Pitt has been in production in Los Angeles since June, while Will Trent began production in Atlanta about two weeks ago, with a release date on ABC set for 2027.
Executive producers on Will Trent are Liz Heldens, Karine Rosenthal, Daniel Thomsen, Karin Slaughter, Oly Obst, Jason Ensler, Ellen Marie Blum and Rodríguez, with Rosenthal also serving as showrunner. The series is produced by 20th Television.
Metz’s additional credits include ABC’s Grey’s Anatomy, Chicago Fire, NBC’s Law & Order: SVU, the CW’s Gossip Girl and ABC’s How to Get Away with Murder. She’s next set to appear in the independent feature Iron Jane, directed by Lissette Feliciano and starring opposite Eiza Gonzalez and Brandon Sklenar. She’s also currently writing a memoir, Good Grief, exploring intergenerational trauma, resilience and healing.
