NBC and Universal TV are set to launch a new drama series, tentatively titled “Keats,” from the creative minds at Bassett Vance Productions. The production company, led by acclaimed actors Angela Bassett and Courtney B. Vance, will helm this exciting new project.
The series is executive produced by Bassett and Vance alongside their Head of Development, Lynette Ramirez, and seasoned writer Pilar Golden. Golden’s previous works include “Beyond Black Beauty” and HBO Max’s “Gossip Girl.”
“Keats” centers on Alex Keats, a fourth-generation police officer who leaves her career and family behind. Alex returns to Philadelphia to bury her mother, a highly decorated officer who allegedly committed suicide. As Alex delves deeper into the mysterious circumstances surrounding her mother’s death, she finds herself drawn back to the police force she left behind, uncovering hidden truths and confronting her own destiny.
Bassett Vance Productions has been busy with a series of successful projects, most recently producing the Showtime film “Heist 88.” Written by Dwayne Johnson-Cochran, this film exemplifies the company’s commitment to creating compelling content. Since joining the company in 2021, Ramirez has focused on developing projects that highlight and uplift BIPOC voices and stories.
Pilar Golden, the writer behind “Keats,” brings a wealth of experience to the project. She created and executive produced the Amazon Freevee series “Beyond Black Beauty,” featuring Kaya Coleman. Golden’s impressive resume also includes writing and co-producing credits for HBO Max’s “Gossip Girl” reboot, CBS’s “God Friended Me,” and Crackle’s “The Oath.”
With this formidable team at the helm, “Keats” promises to deliver a powerful narrative that explores family legacy, duty, and the quest for truth. Fans of drama and mystery will eagerly anticipate this new series.
