Anthony Mackie to Debut as New Cap in Captain American 4

It’s like official, official now. Anthony Mackie is picking up the shield in Marvel’s upcoming “Captain America 4” movie.

Deadline reported Wednesday that Mackie has signed a deal to return to the MCU, this time as Captain America, months after the project was initially reported on.

Mackie first appeared as Sam Wilson (aka the Falcon) in 2014’s Captain America: The Winter Soldier. He reprised the role in the five subsequent movies in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He also took on his role as Falcon/Wilson in the limited series and starred alongside Sebastian Stan, who starred as Bucky Barnes. The show explored the aftermath of Avengers: Endgame, after Steve Rogers left Captain America’s shield to Sam and prompted him to take up the mantle.

Per usual, Marvel Studios is keeping the film’s details well under wraps and it isn’t clear whether the movie will involve Stan.

The Falcon and the Winter Soldier head writer Malcolm Spellman, is co-writing the script alongside “FAWS” staff writer Dalan Musson. No director is yet attached.

No further casting has been set, either and Marvel Studios declined to comment.
