While plot details of this pic are unknown, The Black Canary is the name of two superheroines appearing in DC Comics: Dinah Drake and her daughter Dinah Laurel Lance. Canary is one of DC’s long-standing characters, having been created in the late 1940s. Since the late 1960s, the character has been paired with archer superhero the Green Arrow, both professionally and romantically.

The Black Canary has been adapted into various media with Dinah Lance most recently making her cinematic debut in the DC Extended Universe film Birds of Prey which also featured characters Harley Quinn, the Huntress, and Cassandra Cain. While Prey was not a strong performer at the box office — it grossed only $201.8 million worldwide when released in Feb. 5, 2020 — it did generate fan interest and had actors who were game to play.

Sue Kroll will produce the Black Canary movie under her Kroll & Co. Entertainment banner, having also produced Birds of Prey.
