Apple TV+ has officially renewed the crime thriller Criminal Record for a second season, bringing back Cush Jumbo and Peter Capaldi as their characters navigate another complex investigation. Created by Paul Rutman, the show has captivated audiences with its intense storyline and compelling characters.
In the upcoming season, Cush Jumbo’s character, Detective Sergeant June Lenker, faces a challenging new case. She leads the investigation after a political rally is violently disrupted by far-right counter-protesters, resulting in the death of a young man. Driven by guilt, June is determined to bring the perpetrator to justice. Her quest for answers leads her to Detective Chief Inspector Daniel Hegarty, played by Peter Capaldi, who now operates in the murky world of police intelligence. However, obtaining his assistance will force her to make a dangerous deal.
The first season of Criminal Record debuted on Apple TV+ in January 2024, concluding with the episode titled “Carla” on February 21. The series received praise for its gripping portrayal of modern-day issues, including racism in the UK. Alongside Capaldi and Jumbo, the cast included notable actors such as Zoë Wanamaker, Charlie Creed-Miles, and Cathy Tyson.
Filmed in London, Criminal Record is produced by Tod Productions and STV Studios, with Elaine Collins and Chris Sussman joining as executive producers for the second season alongside Rutman, Capaldi, and Jumbo.
While a release date for the new season has yet to be announced, fans can expect more of the show’s signature blend of suspense and social commentary.
