Apple TV Renews ‘Widow’s Bay’ for Season 2 Ahead of Season 1 Finale

The curse isn’t lifting anytime soon.

Apple TV has officially renewed its hit horror-comedy series Widow’s Bay for a second season, just days before the show’s first-season finale premieres on June 17. The renewal comes as little surprise, with the series earning strong reviews, climbing Apple TV+ charts, and quickly becoming one of the streamer’s most talked-about originals.

The announcement was accompanied by another vote of confidence from Apple: creator, showrunner, and executive producer Katie Dippold has signed a new multi-year overall deal with the streamer. While specific details were not disclosed, the agreement is said to cover television projects and includes a first-look feature film component.

“From the moment audiences arrived in Widow’s Bay, they’ve been hooked on every eerie mystery, unexpected laughs, and cursed secret that Katie, Hiro, Matthew, and the entire team have created,” said Matt Cherniss, head of programming for Apple TV+. “It’s become one of those shows everyone’s talking about, and we’re thrilled to see audiences continue to embrace it. We can’t wait to return for another season.”

Created by Dippold and executive produced by Emmy-winning director Hiro Murai, Widow’s Bay stars Emmy winner Matthew Rhys as Tom Loftis, the well-meaning mayor of an isolated New England island town struggling to reinvent itself as a tourist destination.

Unfortunately for Loftis, the town’s residents may have been right all along about one thing: the island is cursed.

According to the official synopsis, after decades of relative calm, mysterious events once dismissed as folklore begin resurfacing just as tourists finally start arriving. While the superstitious locals are convinced something sinister is happening, Loftis remains determined to build a better future for his community and his teenage son—even if he has to confront forces beyond his understanding.

Rhys leads an ensemble cast that includes Kate O’Flynn, Stephen Root, Kingston Rumi Southwick, Kevin Carroll, Dale Dickey, K Callan, and Jeff Hiller.

Murai executive produces through Chum Films alongside Dippold, Carver Karaszewski, Claudia Shin, and Rhys. Murai directed five episodes of the first season, with additional episodes helmed by Ti West, Sam Donovan, and Andrew DeYoung.

For Dippold, the renewal marks another milestone for a project she has been developing in various forms for nearly two decades. The creator previously revealed that she almost sold an earlier version of the series to Amazon in 2013 before deciding it wasn’t ready.

As for what fans can expect in Season 2?

“Season two is about how everything is great on the island and there’s nothing to worry about,” Dippold joked.

Given everything audiences have witnessed so far, it’s safe to assume the exact opposite.

Widow’s Bay wraps up its first season on June 17 exclusively on Apple TV.
