Apple TV+ has unveiled the premiere date and first-look images for Smoke, an intense new crime drama from acclaimed writer and executive producer Dennis Lehane.

Inspired by true events, Smoke follows arson investigator Dave Gudsen (Egerton) and police detective Michelle Calderone (Emmy nominee Jurnee Smollett) as they track down a pair of serial arsonists whose crimes leave more than just physical destruction in their wake.

Starring and executive produced by Taron Egerton, the nine-episode series will premiere globally on Friday, June 27, 2025, with the first two episodes available at launch. New episodes will debut every Friday through August 8.

The ensemble cast includes: Ntare Guma Mbaho Mwine, Rafe Spall, Adina Porter, Emmy winner John Leguizamo, Hannah Emily Anderson, Emmy nominee Anna Chlumsky, and Oscar and Emmy nominee Greg Kinnear

Created by Lehane (Black Bird, Mystic River), the series reunites much of the creative team behind Black Bird, including executive producers Egerton, Richard Plepler (EDEN Productions), Bradley Thomas and Dan Friedkin (Imperative Entertainment), Kari Skogland, Joe Chappelle, and Jane Bartelme. Directors include Skogland, Chappelle, and Jim McKay.

The story is based in part on the Firebug podcast from Truth Media and hosted by Oscar and Emmy winner Kary Antholis, who also executive produces. Marc Smerling serves as executive producer for Truth Podcasting Corp.

Smoke is produced by Apple Studios and continues Apple TV+’s run of premium original programming. Known for its award-winning slate, Apple TV+ has built a reputation for prestige storytelling, with accolades for titles including Ted Lasso, Severance, and CODA — the first streaming service film to win the Academy Award for Best Picture.
