Leslie Odom Jr. Returns to ‘Hamilton’ for Limited Broadway Run

Leslie Odom Jr. is stepping back into the role that changed everything.

Nine years after his final bow, the Tony and Grammy Award-winning actor is returning to Broadway’s Hamilton this fall to reprise his iconic portrayal of Aaron Burr. The limited engagement kicks off Tuesday, September 9 and runs through Sunday, November 23 at the Richard Rodgers Theatre.

Odom made the announcement live on The Today Show this morning—and let’s just say the news hit with the force of a cabinet battle. A fresh block of tickets was also released and is officially on sale through the run’s end date.

“Returning to Hamilton is a deeply meaningful homecoming,” Odom shared. “I’m so grateful for the chance to step back into the room—especially during this anniversary moment—and to revisit this brilliant piece that forever changed my life and the lives of so many.”

Jeffrey Seller, Hamilton’s lead producer, echoed that sentiment with a moment of reflection: “When I saw Leslie perform ‘The Room Where It Happens’ at the first Act Two workshop of Hamilton, I knew I was witnessing a historic moment. How lucky we are that Leslie is returning and bringing his indelible Burr back to Broadway.”

Odom originally debuted as Burr during Hamilton’s Off-Broadway run before helping catapult it into a cultural phenomenon on Broadway. He earned a Tony for Best Leading Actor in a Musical and a Grammy as a principal soloist on the original cast recording. Since then, he’s carved out a multifaceted career on stage, screen, and in the recording studio.

Last season, Odom returned to Broadway in a different light—producing and starring in the critically acclaimed revival of Purlie Victorious: A Non-Confederate Romp Through the Cotton Patch. That production earned six Tony nominations, including one for Odom’s performance, and aired as part of PBS’ Great Performances.

The timing of this return isn’t lost on anyone—Hamilton will celebrate its 10th anniversary on Broadway this August. And with Odom back in the mix, it feels like a full-circle moment for a show that reshaped the American musical.

Hamilton, with book, music, and lyrics by Lin-Manuel Miranda, direction by Thomas Kail, choreography by Andy Blankenbuehler, and music supervision by Alex Lacamoire, remains one of the most awarded and talked-about productions in Broadway history. It’s taken home Tonys, Grammys, a Pulitzer, an Olivier, and even a Kennedy Center Honors citation. In short—it’s still very much the room to be in.

This fall, that room will once again belong to Leslie Odom Jr.
