Apple TV+ Announces Premiere Date for ‘Sunny’ Led and Executive Produced By Rashida Jones [FIRST LOOK]

Apple TV+ has unveiled the global premiere date for its upcoming mystery thriller series, “Sunny,” starring and executive produced by the talented Rashida Jones. The 10-episode Apple Original series, created by Katie Robbins and directed by Lucy Tcherniak, is scheduled to debut with its first two episodes on Wednesday, July 10, 2024. Subsequent episodes will be released weekly every Wednesday until September 4.

“Sunny” revolves around Suzie, played by Emmy Award nominee Rashida Jones, an American woman residing in Kyoto, Japan. Suzie’s life takes a dark turn when her husband and son vanish in a mysterious plane crash. She finds solace in Sunny, a new class of domestic robot from her husband’s company. What begins as reluctance turns into an unexpected bond as Suzie and Sunny delve into the truth behind the tragedy, unraveling a hidden world in the process.

Hidetoshi Nishijima, Joanna Sotomura, Judy Ongg, You, Annie the Clumsy, and Jun Kunimura round out the cast.

Robbins will also serves as showrunner and executive producer. The series, produced for Apple TV+ by A24, is based on the book “The Dark Manual” by Colin O’Sullivan. It marks the second collaboration between Apple, A24, and Jones, following the success of Sofia Coppola’s film “On the Rocks.” Jones, known for her versatility in both acting and producing, recently starred in Apple’s popular series “Silo.”

Apple TV+, known for its premium original content, offers a diverse range of drama, comedy, documentaries, and family entertainment. Since its launch in November 2019, Apple TV+ has garnered critical acclaim and numerous awards, including Emmy and Oscar wins. “Sunny” adds to the platform’s growing catalog of compelling narratives, promising viewers a captivating blend of mystery and dark humor.
