Ashley Thomas has joined the cast of The Serpent Queen for its second season on Starz. The show has also added Minnie Driver and other talents to its lineup for Season 2, with Samantha Morton leading the series.
The series scheduled to make its return with new episodes this summer.
The regular cast includes Angus Imrie, Emma McDonald, Stanley Morgan, and Philippine Velge. Additionally, recurring stars are Rosalie Craig, Isobel Jesper Jones, Bill Milner, Ashley Thomas, and Alexandre Willaume.
The Serpent Queen delves into the captivating story of Catherine de Medici, portrayed by Samantha Morton, who defied expectations to become one of the most influential rulers in French history.
In this upcoming season, Thomas takes on the role of Alessandro de Medici, a character known for his charm and allure, while Driver embodies Elizabeth I, the renowned ‘Virgin Queen’ known for her style and wit. Imrie portrays Henry IV, a seemingly uncivilized yet intellectually sharp figure.
McDonald’s character Rahima has evolved into a pivotal figure in Catherine’s life, Morgan plays the rebellious Anjou, and Velge embodies Margot, Catherine’s charming and truth-seeking daughter.
Other notable characters include Jeanne d’Albret, played by Craig, Edith the protestant preacher portrayed by Jones, King Charles IX played by Milner, and Montmorency, the loyal Constable General of France, played by Willaume.
The Serpent Queen is adapted from Leonie Frieda’s book, Catherine de Medici: Renaissance Queen of France, and is helmed by writer and executive producer Justin Haythe, with Francis Lawrence and Erwin Stoff serving as executive producers. Produced by Lionsgate Television and 3 Arts Entertainment for Starz, this series promises to continue its captivating storytelling in its upcoming season.
