Ava Threat Joins Yahya Abdul-Mateen II and Vanessa Kirby in Apple’s Sci-Fi Thriller ‘Liminal’

Ava Threat is the latest to join Apple Studios’ sci-fi action thriller Liminal, directed by Louis Leterrier, which stars Yahya Abdul-Mateen II and Vanessa Kirby in the lead roles.

She joins a cast that also includes Tom Pelphrey, Franka Potente, Tracy Letts and Paul Sparks. No details on any of their roles have been disclosed.

While there is no plot for the film, it is based on the AWA graphic novel “Telepaths,” created by Eisner Award winner J. Michael Straczynski alongside Steve Epting and Brian Reber. In the source material, an electromagnetic disturbance suddenly grants telepathic abilities to a tenth of the global population. As the world scrambles to adjust, a group of newly telepathic Boston police officers find themselves in conflict with a faction led by a wrongly convicted prisoner who has emerged as a leader for those trying to survive in a society that now views them as a threat. It is a story rooted in power, fear and what happens when privacy disappears entirely.

The screenplay was written by Justin Rhodes, whose previous credits include Terminator: Dark Fate. Leterrier, known for balancing large-scale action with grounded character work, brings considerable commercial instincts to the material.

Threat is best known for her role as Imani in the BET+ feature The Day Before Christmas, a recurring role in Beauty in Black and a co-starring role on NBC’s Grosse Pointe Garden Society.

Zach Studin produces for AWA Studios and Kevin Walsh produces for The Walsh Company under his overall deal with Apple Studios. Ray Angelic, Straczynski, Epting and Reber serve as executive producers, with Patrick McNamara and Juliet Kirby as co-producers. No release date has been announced.
